I have a 2001 g/v 2.5 v6. I'v heard lots of scarry things about the timing chain problems,however mine has 120,000km (around 70.000-80.000miles) It runs great, little to no ticking and it is the original chain. Should I dish out all that $$$ to replace it or is it safe to keep driving it as is ?                         Thanks in advance.

You're doing fine.  If it sounds good, don't take it apart to see why 

Apparently the key thing to keep it working is to give it good oil, if you do a quick search you should be able to find a thread with some recommendations to make sure you get the right stuff.  I've got the 4 cyl so it might be different from what I use.

Over 130,000 miles on my 1999 5 speed.  No ticking, no clicking, no sputtering.  Starts and runs like the day I bought it!!  Good luck.

5W30 full synthetic oil is the key of sucess!

I run this type of oil in my GV, and I notice that it start better in cold temp(-20,-30 celcius)

Change the oil and filter every 3000 mi and let your ear tell you when to change the timing chain.  A 2 ft piece of pvc pipe will let you listen to the timing assembly like a stethoscope. It is not like timing belts which usually need changing at 75,000 - 90,000 mi. due to cracking and hardening of the belt due to heat damage.

203,000??  Wow....you're doing a lot of driving.  What have been your major repairs?  I've been wondering if I should do a pre-emptive strike by replacing some of the parts that could leave me stranded (water pump, thermostat, fuel pump, etc.).  What do you think....should I just wait for a warning sign?  I need my GV to be reliable.  I have been very good about maintenence, although my oil changes haven't been every 3000.  Usually between 3,000 and 6,000.  I figure if the manual says every 7,500 miles, it won't hurt to go over 3,000 between changes.  I know there's a lot of debate on this subject.  Did you have the leaking front diff??  Mine's leaking now, but I'm waiting to swap it with Sidekick diffs anyway. 

A whole lotta' luck! Bought the 99' last July w/196K on it. It belonged to a lady employee of mine that bought it new when she was still working for me. She ran a long hwy distance to work each day racking up 25K a year. The ONLY thing done to the Zuki is... replacing the throttle cable (recall), pads, shoes, fluids, plugs and an A/C condensor (it got holed somehow) and a battery. The engine hasn't been opened up and the only issue is a small (quart btwn changes) oil leak off the front timing cover and just last week the one of the o2 sensors started acting up giving me the old "service engine soon" light and scan code to ID it. Need to jump on that in the near future. It even still has the original clutch, exhaust system and front rotors! The damn thing is amazing.  Still purrs and gets 25 / 26 MPG.

The fabric front bucket seat BACKS were (foam) worn, so I found a 2000' on e-bay for parts in Fla. Got a good deal on a 60K GV Limited wreck LEATHER seats fore and aft for $350 and scored a "spare" 2.5 for $850 shipped, for when the engine finally gives up.  I plan on keeping her for a long time. 

And here I was worrying about mine with 115,000km ( 65,000 mi ) on it 

Boy don't I feel like a dick  , looks like the old girl might have a bit of life left in it yet
