Worth the price?
« on: July 23, 2007, 09:42:29 AM »
I'm considering a 96 Tracker LSi 4x4 convertible. Manual trans. Owner says it's in great condition. Very little rust and needs headlight (cracked and filled with moisture).  Newer tires and brakes. He says it runs like new and everything works. He says that it's extremely clean. Appears to be kind of dark green in color.

Totally stock, lived in the suburbs all it's life. 140,000 miles

He was asking $2000 but offered it to me for $1700. It's almost a 2 hour drive to see it.

Should I bother? Is it worth the price? I'm really looking for this type of Trackick in stock condition.

I need some expert opinions.

Thanks

seems a little high IMO, but hard to judge too much without seeing/driving it.

Some Q's I'd have are ...
Does it have extras like power locks/windows?
Any tears in the seats?
Is the windshield cracked?
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy it.

If it has the 16 valve I would say yes, the neighbor has one like that and has the 16v. stock.

I believe it's a 16V. I though that was standard in 96? Also didn't LSi's come standard with 16V?

I'm going to look at it tomorrow.

Yes, you are correct, the 8V was no longer available starting in 96.

The price sounds like it is in the "ballpark"....blue book is probably about that for the year, mileage, condition, etc.

Look it over good, use any "flaws" (worn tires, oil leaks, cracked glass, rust, parts that need replaced (headlight, like you mentioned), tears in seats, any non-working items, etc.) to get the price down lower

Check for rust behind the tailights if you can do so without causing a ruckus.  There is almost always rust there...  Price seems OK, but I agree...

Well it was a rusted out POS. He said it had a little rust that was fixed.

Well taping over it with electrical tape is not fixing it. The WS frame was all rusted, bottom of both doors flapping in the breeze, totally rotten and gone under the fuel door.

The guy also had a beat up Lumina.  I mean REALLY beat up. He wanted 2 grand for that.

Totally out of touch with reality.

So the search continues. I'm posting another WTB ad in the garage sale forum.

That's too bad. :(  Too bad you couldn't have gotten some pics beforehand, would've saved a lot of time and $$$. >:(

The deals are out there.  My buddy bought a 1997 Sport for $500.00.  It was alittle rough but quite the score!   ;D

If you are near Indianapolis, "balance" has a '93 in the garage sale for $650 that looks pretty good for a start.  It needs a head gasket and grill, but it does not appear to be badly rusted.  I might have considered it myself if I had time and a place to keep it...  And didn't already have the '96...
