It will probably be less expensive just to swap out the axle(s).

well here the deal on that.  If I'm going to do the axle(s).  I might as well do it right which means something like a ford 9 all set up and locked is going to run $2000+.  If a R&P only runs me under $1000 I'm ahead.

Are you running a 5-sp or automatic?
'03 ZR2 2dr Tracker, '02 XL-7 drivetrain and electrcs
XL-7 front coils
1.5" rear coil spacers
Monroe 32316 shocks w/2" extenders

An automatic  :-[  if I had an 5sp man. I would just put 5.12's in it and call it a day.  The other thing I'm looking in to is an auto trans from an 05 or 06 xl-7. I was reading some place that they had lower gears in them and came with a 4.3 R&P.   Sooooo that trans and my 5.12's would gear me for just about 33's  ;D  Just still trying to find out if what I read was true.

That's exactly what I was driving at.  You could swap in a 5sp, which came with the 4.3 r&p...  If I had another 1200 or so lying around, I'd do it.

The XL-7 5spd auto has 4.30 diffs like the manual while the 4spd auto got the 5.125 diffs. As you'll see the 5spd auto and manual have similar gear ratios.

Gear   4spd auto   4spd auto     5spd auto    5spd manual      5spd manual
               GV               XL-7             XL-7              XL-7                    GV
1st         2.830          2.452          3.520            3.830                  3.704
2nd        1.490          1.452          2.053            2.062                  2.020
3rd         1.000          1.000          1.401            1.436                  1.368
4th         0.690          0.689          1.000            1.000                  1.000
5th                            0.717          0.788                                       0.802

Diff         4.875          5.125          4.300            4.300                  4.300

yes but what year did they start with the lower gear Sean froom aftermarket had a 5sp auto and R&P was 5.12 then that was an 04.  So I'm guess when I 05 & 06 for the lower gears.

Also if I were to swap the trans what else needs to be swapped???

Wanna do soild axle Toyota swap with me at the same time?  Why fab twice?  I might even have an 85 toy donor we could get.  A couple grand would do the Kicker 2, R&Ps and lockers, and other stuff to boot.

just a thought.  Even with custom R&Ps, meez thinks they would be bookoo buckos.

And you'd still have no locker. :P

You know I would take you up on this if my XL wasn't a DD.  Which was another reson for the R&P.  But if a 05 trans fits with out to much fuss that may be the way to go.  Also on + side when I do go SAS gearing will be less of an issue.
