16valve to carbs...
« on: January 15, 2007, 12:44:11 AM »
heya guys... i'm gonna be running a LWB sammi on 35s in a few months... and was gonna fit an 8 valve vit motor into it... maybe with weber carb and manifold...  but a mate of mine has just rolled his vitara, which has a 16 valve motor... which he says i can have

will this be as easy a swap as an 8valve?

would i be able to put the inlet manifold and carb off of an 8 valve onto it?

would i be able to fit a weber carb straight onto it as it is?!?

i dont really want an injection engine...  :-[ but its a free 1.6 :(

any help appreciated guys

You can use an 8V inlet manifold but you have to make a plate to block off the injector cutouts. The distributor is the hard bit. I don't remember the details, Tim Pink on Difflock is the man to talk to. The 16V EFI motor is a good set up, Trail Tough can convert the wiring harness and speedo so it wouldn't be that difficult.

hmm... is the block the same on the two engines? i mean... will the 16v be the same to fit as an 8v... i guess i could just run the engine as it is...

why would the speedo be different? i thought the speedo cable was on the transfer box? or is that something to do with the larger tires...

is trailtough a uk company? i live on a tiddly island near france, so its not often my sami sees the mainland... but planning a trip to get all the new springs/shocks etc sometime next month... so would pay them a visit...

cheers

Block is the same as an 8V, speedo needs modifying if injection is used. TrailTough are in the US, thinking about that some more they might not be able to do a RHD harness. I'm not sure which side of the road you drive on over there.
