new to forum have a question on tire size?
« on: April 03, 2007, 07:35:15 AM »
i everybody my name is bryan im from new hampshire and i just picked up a 1988 samari with toyota axles under it for 500 bucks i was wondering what the best tire to run would be? I have a set of 34/10.5 15 ltb super swampers but i was thinking that maybe a wider tire would do good on this. The people i go wheeling with all run 36s or bigger so i would like to somehow go were they go any ideas? and could this motor turn a 35 inch tire off road with stock gears i dont drive it on the high way and maybe ill go 40 tops with it to the trails so yeah any info would be great.

you will find that the samurai is a very capable rig, even stock. i personally feel that with minor mods, and some driving skill you would be able to do most things your buddies do. now, i have no clue the extent of their builds. but i do know that my stock ride did trails easily that i could not get my wifes 2" lifted cherokee up. i have seen these things sprung over on 32s get places that big tired, big lifted jeeps whine about going. its all a matter of choosing your lines and knowing your limits.

sorry to ramble, but i do not think that you need to go much bigger tire wise as long as they have the clearances they need to not rub hard. you now have one of the most capable off road rigs available. NOW GO USE IT! :)
Jeep boys hate it when the stock zuk has to come pull them off of a hill and then go right over it with no trouble at all.

without gearing reduction.. NO a 1.3 won't turn 35's too well, and it will break birfs left and right with that size tire.

Skinny tires work GREAT on Sammys, for just about everything, plus they weigh a LOT less.

31-32 inch tires work pretty well, but I still think you need gear reduction for those to be perfect.

Some Sammy guys (I am a Kick guy) will chime in and give you more ideas... I am sure they will...
