FJ40 Axles
« on: December 25, 2004, 03:11:55 PM »
So I was talking to my uncle tonight at the annual family Christmas gathering, and I've known about his halted FJ40 swap into an old Datsun pickup, and thought that he only had the front, but he has both, and told me that he'd give them to me for $100. :o

Therefore I've decided to scrap the body swap onto the Bronco chassis and move onto this if I can get this one problem worked out: The rear axle is seized. I plan on rebuilding (replacing all the bearings and seals) the axles, and I was wondering what normally happens when an axle seizes? Could it be the brakes, or something more serious? If it's not the brakes, could it be fixed by tearing it down and cleaning it up/rebuilding it?

I think it's worth the $100 for the front axle, so I'm gonna go for it, even if the rear axle doesn't work out.

You might want to pick up an early toy p/u rear say 1983 or so it should be close just check the front with a tape, if you need wider just get an 85 or newer if this is for a kick, you prob want a centered rear, not offset like the fj40. what year is the front? the fj40 rear is also a c clip type and the rear pumpkin will fit the front for a spare, they all should have 4.10 gears in them.
