Front wheel bearings?
« on: December 09, 2004, 04:19:18 AM »
I am going to be replacing my front wheel bearings and am just wondering how hard it will be? I have never done this type of repair on 4wd suspension. Is there anything I should know before i start this repair?? Any tips/tricks?? Any special tools required?? Right now i have all 4 bearings and all 4 bearing races and the 2 front oil seals. Anything else i should need/get??

Thanks in advance!!!

Track/Kick or sammy?

If a Track/kick, The only thing you need a special tool for is the spindle nut. Cheapy sockets from the autoparts store wont fit either, you need the actual suzuki tool. You can do it without the tool by using a chisel and big hammer to knock the nut loose, but this can chew up the nut.  once you get the stud hub off the spindle, be sure to remove the snap ring on the inside edge before trying to take the inner bearing out... I recently ran into the problem of new bearings not removing the play in my wheels, I haven't fixed it yet, but I suspect stretched out stud hub(the outer bearing supported part with the wheel studs on it) because when I recently replaced the bearings, the outer race just dropped into place without needing pressed in...

Use A 50mm socket to get the hub nuts off. Be careful taking the hub assembly out , cuz the outer bearing likes to flop out on the floor. Pack the bearing and hub with good quality bearing grease and replace the seal. If the seals are the rubber based ones they do not go in as easy as the steel cased seals. Either ones would be easier to be installed with a seal and race driver. If not use a big block of wood or and old bearing race. When you reassemble, buy new gaskets for the hubs. Or silicone what remains of your existing gaskets.
