Idea for front diff drop brackets??
« on: July 28, 2007, 09:47:36 PM »
I need to drop my front dif about 1.5 to 2in to save my cvs..I was thinking of taking of the front 2 brackets off then getting some moderately thick steel plating and bolting one end of the plate to the original bracket and the other end to the diff.  I would fab the steel plate to give about 2 extra inches of diff drop.  And if needed i would have it all welded together after its been bolted.  Good idea? bad idea?

I'm not sure that would work. The diff drop is more of a rotation than an actual drop, tilting it forwards brings the output shafts lower without having to chop the rear crossmember.

well that was the idea...i was gonna loosen the rear crossmember bracket then add the front drop brackets then torque everything down...and since the rear brackets has a large bushing under it should have some play when it lose..that would tilt the front diff forward wouldnt it?

Give it a go and see how you get on. The RHS bracket will probably be the most awkward because of the way the holes will line up. To give you some idea here are pics of the Calmini brackets against stock.
