thinking about axles
« on: November 26, 2004, 01:50:14 PM »
Been doing some thinking about what to do with my XL-7 rear axle.  I now have 31's on and need to regear( well not realy I still can pass people doing 70 ::) would like the power back thou) but guess what ..... no one makes higher gears for the xl-7.   :-/  So here's what I was thinking about doing: getting a GV rear, sidekick 3rd w/5.8 R&P(which I know will work together) pull the gv axles out and swaping in the XL-7 bigger axles. (this is where things start to get fuzzy)  Now it's my understanding that the GV and xl-7 are all most the same.  What's differnt the spline count on the Xl-7 is higher and the splined end is not tapered down = stronger axle

So all this just sounds too easey What am I missing ???

Well if the XL7 axles are splined different the sidekick 3rd wont work cause the axles will be a different diameter. Right?  ???

GV Center section might accept your XL-7 side gears.   Don't know never seen one.

But that how you get from a 22 spline to a 26 spline in the front of an Older Track Kick or sammy.
