Picked up two rather large, kind of boxey but cool hoodscoops from Pep Boys last week--the 3M stick-on type, for 35 bucks each. I know that one would have been cool enough, but you have to understand that I'm not a truly normal human being.

I'm going to have the truck washed and waxed before "installing," and I plan on drilling holes into the hood AFTER I get them on. Or after I get just one one:

You see, I haven't laid them on the hood yet to see which will look better--both, or just one.

I picked up the second one because the company has discontinued this particular scoop--www.alpena.ca (That's ca for Canada, not com.) I figured better safe than sorry.

Two questions:

1) These scoops are black, real slick, going on my white truck. I know it's all a matter of taste, but should I just leave them black, or paint them, trying to match my truck's white? I'm asking because I don't see how in a million years I'm going to be able to find a matching white in spray, and that mismatch would look even WORSE than just leaving them black.

2) To mark the hood for proper placement, I was thinking of a grease pencil. Does this make sense, or is there something else I should use?

Could look decent, Dont put the scoop in the center of your hood, Put it where your intake filter is.. IE common sense

DON"T cut the crossbracing under the hood. Put it wherever you like it, it'll make no difference to the incoming air.  It's probably not going to do much anyway.  IMO, leave 'em black.

I just put them on there to see how it/they would look in various placements, and so far, I'm not thrilled. Leaving 'em black on a white Corvette might make sense, but I got a feeling I'm going to have to paint them.

I guess I can put them on the way they are, because it wouldn't be a big deal to paint them later if I get the   urge. Real easy to mask around them and protect the hood.

I'll make that drilling holes decision later, but you gotta understand that here in South Florida, every little bit of air flow increase is gonna help.

I would leave it black, then put some extra black highlighting to match.  Paint your rims, change the Tracker stickers to black versions, ect. 

Will they be facing forward or backwards? I would face them backwards if your intention is to vent heat from under the hood. I would install them facing forward and place at least one over the airbox if you are looking for the ram-air effect.

As far as getting holes through the hood- I would decide where you are going to put the scoops and use a  2" hole saw to cut through the sheet metal, but NOT the innerstructure of the hood. Since the hoods are already flexible enough, cutting the underside of the hood would make it really weak. I would cut a group of holes in the area under the scoop to allow the air to pass through.

Ichange the Tracker stickers to black versions, ect. 

Those stickers went LONG ago--way too gay. (Not that there's anything wrong with that.)

I have been having the GREATEST time the last two weeks driving this truck around town. Our temps in South Florida have been outstanding, with ZERO chance of rain (which is a real rarity for us). We're just NOW getting into our great weather.

So the the top comes all the way down/off, she's beautifully washed and waxed, the tires "polished/shined" (Armor-All), and here I am, a 50-year-old art fart blasting Jimmy Buffet music from Sirius, and everyone is looking at me and giving me the thumbs up.

This is one cool ride, dudes, and I'm really loving it.
