New head on a high mileage Samurai?
« on: November 25, 2007, 01:18:18 PM »

I've been pondering this idea for a few weeks. It's my daily driver so I don't want to be with out it for too long. Timing belt is coming up and my head modification will work for now but I'm not too pleased with it. Engine doesn't smoke and runs pretty strong. I'm putting the harley 44 carb on it in a week or two. Suppose to add 20 h.p. but I know I'll want more. I'll be adding a header at some point since the exhaust is due for an upgrade.

The question is, If I put a beefed up head and a calamini cam in it, what would I have to do to the engine to keep it from having problems, or am I better off just leaving the rest of the motor alone until it craps and then re-building it  Can I just re-ring it in the vehicle? Or should I just let it smoke with a new head? ???

I would go ahead and do a full rebuild and be done with it.It will not take very long, with having the machine shop check everything out being the longest part.
This way you have a reliable engine that you know is proper and should give 1000's of miles of trouble free service.
   Just my 2 cents
