I may be wrong about this.....

...but I believe that the 1.6 engine was not available on the '89 model.

The 1.6 was available in 89 however there was a 1.3 option also. If the engine is FI then it is a 1.6 if it has a carb it is a 1.3

Are you sure you have the offset on the right side? Right as in correct, not right side of the motor
If its not broken, break it

ya i checked it twice. the directions call for the offset mount to be put on the passenger side of the motor and that is where it is.

so the update is that i finally got the motor mounted to the mounts and all but there is still no chance the hood will close. any ideas? i was thinking i may have to make a cowl induction style hood to compensate for the intake for the efi. what ya'll think?

Adding a aftermarket scoop would not be very difficult or expensive, but most people install a body lift to overcome the clearance problem.Especially since it gives more tire clearance and gets the rockers up further from danger.

I have the same problem with my SJ413, I am going to fit a hood scoop. I don't need the extra tyre clearance and I don't want to raise the C of G just to close the hood.
