Axle Limits

Fellas!   I'm an avid Jeeper and know them inside and out.  I had an unbeatable deal on a Samurai today and took his offer.    It's an 88 Hard top, 36" TSLs, 5.13 gears,  spooled front and rear, 6:1 Transfer case gear, etc...     The main thing that I am concerned with is the fact that this thing is still riding on stock axles...   I know toyota axles are a nice swap but just how far can the stock axle housing and shafts go?

Depends on how you drive it really.  It took me 3 years to break an axle with 33's, 6.5:1 and 5.12's with a spool and Track-Lock, then ARB up front.  36" tires do seem to be a bit excessive though...

I wouldn't be surprised if he has heavy duty axles in the rear at least.  With the Birfrields up front you really have to be careful when backing up.  If your wheels are turned and you back up a hill or some rocks that tends to break them.

You can get Newfield front shafts now with a warranty for the Sammy axles.  They also make hardened rear shafts that I have seen handle 38" tires without complaint.  Trail Tough is also working on a set of the 4340 front shafts.

Welcome to the Zuki world.  :)

Sweet!  I'm adding a winch today and front and rear bumpers..  I'm tubbing the back and will have sliders on it by wednesday.     I'll be rockin and rollin by sunday!  Yeah!  Thanks for the help...

I'm pretty sure that the rear axle is a sidekick 3rd member with stock samurai outers and tubes...  Not usre what axles are in it...

Sounds like you may have a TT hybrid rear, which uses the stock Sammy rear axles.

Go have Phun!

Hey, look's like you don't have to worry about denting it.

And as it has a SJ410 grill it is even neater.

When you say tubing the back, do you mean a cage or are you cutting the back off?  Kind of sad to see that happen to a tin top...  :(

:D

Post up a picture of your rear diff.  We can tell you what you have in it. :)

It's already beat up...    I plan to build an internal roll cage.   The tin top should stay on there for a while longer...  I'll post a picture of my rear tomorrow.  It's too dark and I'm too intoxicated right now!

On a lighter note... my girlfriend hates it! lol
