Got SPOA on now comes the hard part ,HELP!!!!
« on: December 27, 2007, 06:38:38 PM »
I got my SPOA done on my 83 SJ it looks awesome. Now I have to widen it so I don't tip over.I got longer brakelines so they are ok. It ended up giving me 4.25 inches of lift. Now I've just got 2 problems. My driveshafts are too short by about 1.75 inches and my steering hits the right leaf spring and is too short. How much does the drop pitman arm drop the draglink? What have you guys done with your drives shafts? I was thinking of having a machine shop cut the slip yokes apart and lengthen them .I don't want to use spacers if possible because it will only make the angles worse.Unless you guys think they are OK.Where is the best place to buy a drop pitman arm and driveshaft spacers if I decide to go that way? I live in Alberta Canada so some of the good stuff is a little hard to come by. Thanks for any suggestions.

Did a Spoa from Breeze industries in BC.  Also supplied spacers, new shock mounts and drop link.  Reasonable prices and very good to deal with.

i did spacers on my driveshafts and have had zero problems with vibration or over extension, i even have add a leaves and teraflex revolver shackles in addition to the spring over
as far as the pitman arm it wasnt enough for my rig, i still hit the springs at full droop, i went with a z link type drag link, i think the best solution is a hi-steer of some sort, i continue to mangle steering stabilizers and tie rods, although im not exactly gentle with my rig.
as far as widening it i run 2 and 1/4 " backspacing on a 8 inch rim and rarely tip over

I have had spacers on mine now for near ten years and have not had a problem with them, I believe the front was an inch or inch and a quarter while the rear was an inch and a half, inch and three quarter.

And the drop pitman arm drops the draglink either three or four inches, I think the common amount is three. Even then the draglink will rub a little. Heck, even my custom draglink rubs but I don't want to spend the time fixing it as I plan on a different set-up. I guess I am just lazy as it would take only a couple of minutes to whittle a little clearence with a cutting torch.

I made my own extended slip yoke. I found some heavy wall pipe that was 1.5 inches inside. It just slid tight over the slip yoke. So I cut the yoke and stretched it out 1.5 inches and welded it back up making sure to keep the u-joints in phase. Took it for a test drive and no vibration whatsever at its breakneck top speed of 90km/hr. Now I have to do the front. I got the trailmaster PA20 pitman arm and installed it today. The draglink has about 1/8" clearance at full right lock on level ground anyway. The extended front brakelines I got from HAWK were really long I had to loop them and put a holder on them near the factory bracket to keep them from rubbing the tire.Next up lower t-case gears.

i think my entry was slightly vauge, on level ground a 2 inch pitmandid fit ,my sammi hasnt had road tabs in 5 years, so this doesnt really apply for me, when wheelin i still scuff with a 7 inch z link[its a drag link bent and trussed] its evident by the ocasional droop right turn limt, it is a inexpensive start to solving the spring over steering issue, ive heard of some high steer kits that put just the drag over the springs, this would be better.
