I remove seats, center consol and carpet today. The carpet was very dirty and wet(realy tough winter with ALOT of snow and salts).

I cleaned the floor and remove all rubber/plastic stuff that keep moisture(i don't know how to name that sh*t). And I will remove more rust with a steel brush.

I will clean the carpet and let it dry, but for the floor what I need to do? Any suggestions?

To address the rust, there is ONLY one product I recommend.  www.por15.com  Get the "starter set" off ebay and that is everything you need and more to fix what you got.

Once the rust is fixed, ditch the carpet and go with Line-X, Rhinoliner, Durabak or similar.

I'm hearing a lot of good about Rust Bullet.  I've used POR15 and a few others but Rust Bullet seems to be like them but without all the degreasing and etching BS.


Road noise will be more apparent without the carpet and mat.

I pulled the carpets and welded some patches for the cancer then scraped the rust and used some Rustolium paint. Since then it's come back a little. In a soft top with no carpet the noise is significant. Cleaning is easy though. Wash out with a pressure sprayer. All but for plastic seats and the dash it's completly water proof. I leave the top off all summer and pull the body plugs when it rains.            NMc

Umm, turn the volume knob up?  LOL.  It will be noiser, but you won't have rust.  You could always put carpet floor mats down and remove them when you expect mud (or road salt).

We have some floormats that are "cupped" and have a 2" or so lip around their edge.  Works really well for keeping the winter and incliment weather moisture and crap on the floormats and off of the floor.  They are specific fit for these vehicles too.

yank the carpet on the foot wells and either line X or throw in some Husky Liners.  I used the Huskys I had left over from an 01 expedition I sold and they fit nearly perfect

Here is what u do grind it and take the seam sealer away and then use acetone to clean it make sure the area is dry and use ZINC primer then black paint then seam sealer. Ill post pics in a bit of mine.
