I called a parts dept for some wheel seals for the rear of a 93 Tracker and they tell me there is an inner and outer. Im guessing the inner is a regular wheel seal but Im not sure what the outer is. Anyone know?

Not sure. I did not have a bearing puller or a press at my disposal when I needed to replace my rear bearings so I had Jimmy do them for me. But as many times as I have had the rear axle apart, I dont remember an inner seal :-/ Call Hawk and ask them about it. They will know and can get you the seals cheaper too

I think that the inner seal is the seal that is installed on the housing side, and the outer seal is the seal that is installed in the bearing end of the axle shaft.

I haven't replaced any of the outers myself, I know it takes a press to put them in, but the inners I have replaced multiple times.

I guess since I was going through rear axles with the lockrite, and the spool, since I was just replacing the shafts with other used shafts, I didn't care too much.

So did you just silicone the outer seal ?

Its in the 4 bolt flange that stays with the axle. Dont worry about it. If your getting a leak replace the inner. the outer isnt designed to hold fluid in its to hold water out. Ive never seen a bad one. I have seen bad inners but only cause someone damaged it swapping an axle.
