X90: Are 33's Impossible?
« on: March 03, 2008, 05:10:00 PM »
A friend of mine just bought a 97 X90. He has access to 33" Boggers, and we're trying to figure out what we need to do to fit them. We have a 3" body lift, and 2" coil spacers we can use, but we don't think 5" will be enough. We're estimating we need about 7 or 8" total lift which leaves us short.
What have others done to run this size tire on an X90? We're not interested is frame stacking, or solid axle ideas, we want to keep it IFS, and we need to work with what we have... (coil spacers, body lift, welder & steel) We're leaning towards a frame chop, but don't want to do something we don't have to.

The problem faced with installing larger tires on an X-90 is all the extra sheet metal around the wheelwells. You need 2" of lift and a little trimming just to fit 215's or 225's. Throwing on 3" of body lift in addition to 2" of suspension lift might get you 30's, 31's with some trimming. To fit 33's, I would imagine it would take a full 3" suspension, 3" body lift and more than slight trimming. I have a 98 X-90 running a Calmini 2" suspension kit and it's got 215/65's on it. I am planning on putting 215/75 BFG All-T's on it soon, but I think I am going to have to either add some small coil spacers or trim some more to get them to clear, especially up front.

Maybe some other people will have more useful info about it than me, but good luck with it and post pics! LOL!
Had a cool sig pic till I changed the text... sigh...

Get the 4 or 4.5" ZukiNation lift and make a 3" body lift. Maybe hack the fenders back a little while you're at it.

It can be done. I have a pic of one in the gallery under poser shots that a friend and I did. We did a 8" frame drop and 2" spring spacer in the front. In the rear is grand cherokee front springs which give 6" and 4" spacer. Lengthened the lower arms and remounted the stock upper.  It is on 33x12.50x15 in the pic. So it can be done. I am running the same set up in my trackick and it works great.

I am not saying that my way was better. I would do trail slayer also. I was my first build and didn't know if a would enjoy it and use it enough. I am not spending that kind of cash on something that is going to sit around. I will build another and it will be done differently. I was just giving some examples to answer the post.

Hope I didn't offend, I am just impressed with what I have seen, I hope to live vicariously through others since I will never be able to afford it...

No, none taken. I would build one like that in a second. I would work alot better then what I have now. But mine works for what I have been using it for. I didn't want to spend a fortune right off in case it wasn't for me. But i love it so I will drive this one for now and biuld another in the mean time. Well aleast that is the plan.LOL
