96 and up Tracker question
« on: April 13, 2008, 07:59:53 AM »
Why is so hard to find replacement parts for a '96 Tracker and years after and when you do the parts are priced higher than the '95 and years before?

I have been trying to find a new hood for my Tracker because the welds have broke on the underside and its dented up fairly bad. I can find fenders, lights, interior parts and such, but no hood!

* 235/75/15 M/T's
* Custom front and back bumpers
* Durabak exterior coating (bed liner) * '07 chevy silverado "wail tail" tailgate cover (custom cut to fit)

This is a problem with Suzuki dealers in my area as well as most parts suppliers. I have a 96 'Kick and almost everything I need for it is a 2 day wait for the parts. I mean a million Track/Kicks on the road and the dealer does now have parts in stock... Not even a thermostat. Now I was told by a Suzuki parts guy 2 things... His boss will not allow stock to sit on the shelf... And was also tolde due to the age of my Kick it's not worth it to hold in stock... ???
Believe it or now I have found the GM dealer in my area can get the part that afternoon and have in some cases been cheeper than anywhere else.

There were a lot of small unseen changed in 96. I've had a few situations where certain parts didn't work on my 97. Just this weekend I put in a used tranny from a pre-96 and I needed to put on the bellhousing from my old tranny because there were 3 less bolts in the older model.

If it's a Sikekick Sport I have an un used hood for it, but it probably wouldn't be worth the shipping from Utah.

That is why I just call Hawk Suzuki when I need parts I can't get from someone parting out a rig on Craigslist.  Then again, I'm lucky that since they are just down in Oregon it only takes 3 days to get the parts, almost the same as ordering it through an official supplier.  :)

If you are referring to the extra bolt holes for the braces that run from the engine back to the tranny bellhousing.....that is not a pre-96 and 96 and up difference.  All 4 door 5 speeds (not sure on the autos) had the extra holes in the bellhousing for the braces.  And (I think) the 2 door trackicks with the 16V engines had the extra bracing too.
The good this (as you found out) you can swap bellhousings and you are good to go.
Even the 91 4 door I saw with the 8V engine in it had the extra bracing......I use to think it was a 16V thing.....but that proved me wrong.
Tracker and Sidekick parts for sale.....PM me with your wants/needs.

I have a 4sp auto in my 4dr and they also have the brackets from the tranny to the engine on both sides as well.

Yep, bought some new head lights from them several months ago! I guess I am just venting! Seems like everything for this model and up is more expensive and harder to find. THX

Depending on how beat up it is, you can get someone to heat it up with a rosebud and bend it back into shape. I did that with mine and it is still holding up.
