« on: August 31, 2004, 10:18:08 AM »
Hey guys has anyone ever made a air scoop for the sidekick, in the place of the hindge cover? i was looking at it this evenin and thought it would look cooler, and might improve performance slightly if you have a new hindge cover made outta fiberglass with a air intake there, what ya think?

to be a 'working' intake, meaning forces air into the carb, my hotroding friends tell me something like that has to be a certian height over the hood to work.  i dont know what that height is.  sorry not much help.  might look cool though ;D  even if it doesnt really work.

They were fitted originally on diesel models to gain space for the Mazda engine. The very last of the old shape cars were also fitted with them (1999/2000 models). It looks good but doesn't serve any real function. When I get round to it I'm going to block mine off. When you enter deep water it comes up over the hood and the scoop directs it straight down onto the top of the engine and all over the alternator  :( The water we drive through at sites is usually more like a muddy syrup and is very abrasive - not good.

not liek that i mean, what i am saying instead of making a scoop in the center, make one and put it under the winscreen pillars, instead of the hindge covers

If you look at ZukikinMad's pic (http://www.rhinoman.org/images/images/myvit05.jpg ) that 'Kick has a snorkel with that air scoop.

I was thinking of making a scoop for mine, but don't know how effective it will be. Grabbing a scoop from an old 300Z (http://www.z31.com/84/aaron2.jpg) over the air filter. Will that work?

Awesome! :o Thanks for the pic  - do you know how this scoop is used for the intake?

I'm thinking the placement of the scoop is where a cone airfilter could go.
