My '96 Tracker isn't completely water tight inside. On the passenger side I get water coming down into the footwell from somewhere up on the firewall or the side of the body close to it every time there is a hard rain. Not sure where. It's never been a big leak and never a problem so I just sop it up and it's on my list of "to do's".
This morning I had a new one though...we got rained on yesterday, last night, and this morning...cats and dogs rained on diminishing to just a steady rain. Little bit of water on the floorboards on that side when I got home at 5pm and that was about it. I sopped it up with a rag and let it be. Started and drove fine.
This morning after breakfast we realize we hear music playing...the Tracker's radio was fully powered and blaring away with the rock station it was set on when I turned it off. I had walked right by it about an hour earlier when I got up and took my dogs out and it was off for sure then. No key in the ignition, no loose ignition, the radio isn't hot wired to the battery or anything...just the vehicle was damp and wet from sitting outside over night in the rain. I had somewhere to go so I pulled the positive battery lead and let it sit.
Came home and put the lead back on, the radio did not come back on until I put the key in the ignition and turned it over, started right up and drove it into the garage. LOTS of corrosion on the positive lead but nothing some baking soda and water didn't clear up. Cleaned it all off and hosed the battery, the terminal, and the fuse bank (took the top off) in front of it with WD40.
Sooo...anyone got any ideas on likely culprits? I'm sorta confused by this as it has since gone away but worried a bit too. Where could water get that would cause a short or something to power just the radio?
