Why not run a trackick rear in a samurai?

Why not run a trackick rear in a samurai?

 I am getting ready to do a spoa on my 87 samurai and put 4.62 gears in it. I see people running the hybrid rear, but why not just run a whole rear from a trackick that has the 4.62 gears and diff already in it? I believe the track width is only 3" wider for the trackick, so you could just use some spacers to make the front width match. I will be welding spring mounts anyway so not really much more work to do them on the trackick instead of the samurai rear.

The diff on a tracker is centered unlike the passenger offset diff on the samurai . It would probably be fine on the trail if you clearence the drive shaft a bit  but i think it would vibrate on the road.
If its not broken, break it

Ah yes I see, just measured and yea it is offset like 7 inches so that would definately be a problem. I didn't realize the samurai had that much offset to the rear.

What if you shifted the axle over the 3" extra width to the one side, then shorten the axle & axle tube on the other side. It'd give 3" of offset right?

Then - I suppose if you're going to do that much work, ya may as well make the hybrid.

Some have put the kick axle in a Sami with no vib. issues. Guess it depends on the install. And the kick rear is 4 inchs wider so you would need 2" spacers on the front.

with the hybrid rears they sell what do you use for axles, do they include shorter ones or do you use the samurai axles? Can you build a hybrid rear without having to get axles made?

Many have done this mod before, but then your basically making your rig a trail baby due to the offset driveshaft.  Road you get to much vibe, and it is actually harder on the drive train.

Just a sugestion, never tought about using those old army cj jeep differential, into a sammi??? im not sure but i think that they are the same widht and they are both offset...

This is what myself and a few friends are doing as we are building full floater rears to go with our 26 chromo fronts. With the first one we just shortened the right hand side and it puts the pinion fairly close but still a little offset to the middle. Now what we have done is to flip it and then shorten the new right hand side and it is pretty much the same as a stock Sammi. Keep in mind that we have welded on 10mm thick adapter plates to the end flanges to allow us to bolt on the front spindle/hub/brake assembly and also now that we have flipped it we now have to cut off the rear diff cover and rotate it 180 deg and reweld it on to clear the ring gear. The diffs are also being shaved at the same time. As we are making full floaters we have new axle shafts made and we can either use the stock freewheeling hubs or the better option, the solid flanges from an early SJ or the 1st gen GV but it would be possible to cut down and respline a stock axle shaft although you now have a custom part that is not particularly strong.  Getting this done to something like a Calmini HD axle shaft would be a better option imho.

Most of the time when you go to a Hybrid rear your putting it into a Sammy anyway, so you can just use your old axle shafts.  The main point is to get a larger ring and pinion and easier/cheaper access to the lower gears.  In my case I had bought the gears not knowing there was a difference in size between the Sidekick and Sammy rear diffs.

ive ran toyota rear and dana 44 both center diff, never any vibes just use the toyota driveline with the cv
88' Zuk 16v efi full width dana 44 axles and 37"s,hybrid exo cage, comp cut rear -18", F&R fox air shocks , jegs poly seats, sk automatic trans, 6.5:1 t case, twinsticks, 100" wheelbase with a 79" wide.
