Yet another "will this fit" question:
« on: October 02, 2004, 05:33:42 PM »
I want a little more height and ground clearance. I am going to be getting 15x7" rims with 3 or 3.5" backspacing and want to clear 30x9.50" mud terrains. Can I acheive this with a 2" body lift and some trimming? How about a 2" body lift, trimming and small coil spacers? Please help, the bank(signifigant other) wont approve the funds for a suspension lift...

You can get 30's on there with just some liberal fender trimming... a 2" BL and just a bit of trimming (at the back of the front wheelwell) should fit 30's nicely. Throw some coilspacers in and you should be able to go 31's/

after doing some shopping, it would appear as if 3.75" backspacing is the easiest/cheapest to find in 15x7" black daytona style rims of the right bolt pattern(5x5.5"). Is this backspacing far enough out from the frame to allow 30x9.50" M/T's to clear the frame? I noticed I am getting a little rubbing from the back edge of the front tire on the frame with stock rims, no lift and 215/75-15 A/T's!

92sidekick4x4, my 215's on stock rims rub! anything wider or taller would most definately rub worse! I had a set of sidekick rims before. Are they differently backspaced than tracker rims? I think they might be because if I remember correctly, the tires seemed to stick out from the wheel openings a little more...

What about the rim backspacing? will 3.75" work or do I need to search harder and find 3 or 3.5" I can't see 1/4" making that much difference, but you never know. That's why I'm asking.

These wheels have 3.75" back spacing and dont hit the frame on full lock. Tires are 29",but i had 31's on them at one time and still didn't rub on the inside, but did behind the tire on fender, minor triming and they were good to go.

And this is with a RRO 2" body lift and coil spacers in front.

I found this post that I think answers one of my questions:

Quote
I have 30x9.5x15 on my 95 tracker with no lift of any kind.  They are mounted on 15x7 wheels with 3.75" backspacing (std for samurai)

I trimmed the bottom part of the front bumper cover and pounded the inside of the front wheel wells after removing the inner liner.

They don't rub at all on the street unless I hit a speedbump at about 50 mph and don't even rub much in light to moderate wheeling.  I have a Calmini 2" lift kit for the truck but haven't put it on yet since i don't really need it.

I think the coil spacers you mentioned would really help out in that situation.  Then you should only have to trim a little.  Might hurt your articulation though, with those sausages stuffed in there.  Depends on what kind of driving you do.  The rig above should do well on the road and on light trail rides like he says, but if you get tempted to get a little more aggressive, it'll trip you up quite a bit.

Well, I noticed that after adding the winch/bumper, skidplate, grille guard and lights up front, it has sagged pretty far, so the more I think about it, the more I think I'm going to be throwing in a pair of 1" front coil spacers anyways just to help level out the rig and get the front back up where it was. Then I plan on a 2" body lift before I go wheelin with the 30's. I'll just leave these 215's on for now until I get the BL fabbed up and in...
