shock length help
« on: July 21, 2008, 06:27:55 PM »
I have a spoa samurai and my shock mounts are 19" apart at rest. I am looking for a cheap set of shocks i can pick up at a local auto parts store. Any one have any imput on the compressed/extended length? 14/25 maybe? Thanks for the help. The previous owner  put doestech shocks on that are way too long. To compensate for this he just dropped the lower shock mounts way down below the axle. I'm in the prosess of redoing pretty much everything he touched. I'll save the long ones for the YJ swap

id have to go measure , im running the same setup[yjs are in the works] and i used the shock towers off a f150  to get em long enogh to not max out at full droop and still have enough compression travel, i think i paid 10 bucks at the wrecking yard for them and they are much longer and burlier than stock, you may be able to use the shocks you have with them, they are a top stud type mount, just like factory zuk
if you were right, dont you think i'd agree with you?

Find something to drive up onto and flex your rig out.  Once you do that take measurements at the top and bottom of your travel.  Then just go down to your local auto parts store and borrow their shock book, you can order a set of shocks to fit exactly what you need.
