TSL's on stock sammy?
« on: August 04, 2008, 01:56:21 PM »
Well I realized the tires I bought my samurai with are'nt really up to off roading when a dinky sliver of wood owned the front right's sidewall. Needless to say I want better tires, and I would really like to get the 29X8.5 in. TSL's my wheels aren't stock I think there 7 to 7.5" wide and there also backspaced like 3.5 to 4", so I guess I'm wondering if those would rub the frame or wheel wells when fully articulated. also if anybody knows of tires that are similarly priced to the TSL's (around 100 bucks a piece) I  would like to know. Thanks

Those 29" TSL are awesome, and going to be hard to beat for raw off-road performance. They're legendary for a reason. The Dakota M/T's are nice if you want to do more street driving, but the side walls aren't going to be as good. They're also radial vs bias ply. Just depends on how much you plan on beating them up, and if you need them to perform better on or off road.

Here is my sami when it was in stock form with 29x8.5 TSL radials on stock rims.
The tires did really well off road and haven't worn really at all.
There a pretty stiff tire, with the samurai being so light when you air down they dont really moosh all that much.

They did rub under flex but it wasn't anything horrible.

Hey check out the super swamper LTB, it's a newer version of the tsl and they have a great tread pattern. I had a daily driver IH Scout 2 that had TSL's on it for 2 years and still had great tread on them when I sold it.

The LTB is almost the same but has a better sidewall tread in my opinion. The lugs go way further down the side but have the exact same center pattern as the TSL. I have 30" mastercraft courser mt's and they are pretty aggressive as well but nothing compairs to the good ole' TSL

As an alternative Pro Comp has a Mud Terrain that measures out to 29.3" in height and a Xtreme Mud Terrain that is 30.5".  I have been happy with my 33x12.5 Xtreme Mud Terrains on my SJ and the side wall is quite a bit thicker then my old BFG MTR's where.
