« on: October 06, 2008, 06:24:44 PM »
im planning on using 2" square tubing on my 89 sidekick. do i have to modify my shifter or steering column? or can i just put the tubing between the cab and the mounts, bolt it down and call it good?

You can't use 2" tubing for a home made body lift. Even the 3" is tight. If you want 2", buy a kit - otherwise you'll need to go 3" tubing.
You will need to extend shifters, but really not right away. I'm just getting to mine now almost a year later.

CAN'T!  >:D

If I'm not mistaken, you can you 2x3" tubing to do a 2" lift. That allows the stock puck to fit inside the tubing.

The thin puck that goes against the body stays put, and the block goes under that with the lower isolator inside the block. The block bolts the the frame. With only 1 5/8" inside the block there's not enough room to fit everything, however the stud hangs down too low anyway.
Despite what you've read, there is not enough room, unless you cut the studs and abandon the factory lower rubber isolator. Once you cut enough off the studs the nut grabs just enough threads. I don't know anybody that would put their stamp of approval on doing any of that.

Sky Manufacturing makes a nice 2" kit for about $120

Hmmmmm.
Just enough threads for what? :o

Sh!t. For $120, there's no question what I'd do.
Buy the kit. Be done. Be safe.

Good info.
You just saved me some time and headache! ;D
