Trackick strut towers
« on: September 17, 2004, 03:16:18 PM »
I'm bidding proxy on a 95 Sidekick, 16v 1.6, 5-sp, 4wd, 4wd, JX model, 70k showing. Couldn't get the key before closing to review, but the interior light didn't light up, nor the headlights, so I'll assume I wouldn't have been able to start it either.
Anyways, looks decent enough, no major leaks, nothing dented too bad, little to no rust, etc. However, I noticed that there is a distance difference between the strut towers to the inner splashwell. The passenger side was a little farther away, in comparison to driver's side. Sort of like if driver's side had some bad body bushings. I looked at best these over, didn't see a problem. Didn't see any panels bent, and both strut nuts were in the same place.  Just seems odd.

Is this a common thing for a Sidekick?

Only if the previuos owner Jumped it or it got wrecked it.
I'd look a lot closer at it with really good light.

That's what I was thinking, about jumping it, but no other marks on bottom of the frame, nor the tranny crossmember or engine cross member. There is a little frame bending on the driver's side front, just along the bottom of the frame and with no insulation removed. Body mounts looked symetrical in the mounts, and I push/pulled on the fender, lifting/pushing on the front so hear, see, whatever anything and nothing. Wasn't much off, but noticeable by me. Tires looked fine with no oddball wear.

Thanks.

BTW, my max bid is $1350. Recent model 94 sold on Ebay for near $2500.

It's got tilt, cruise, ac, ps, pb, Mazda radio, dirty carpet, green and silver interior.

Did you win it? For a good price I would get it and just have the alignment checked.

Good look with the auction,

Didn't get back till after 930 last night from the 4wd club's picnic at KS Rocks Park. Didn't have a message (don't remember leaving my phone number), so I'll call on Monday.
I'm weighing the winning of this $$wise as I got 5 new 235/75-16 (28.75" mounted) MTs put on the -7 today (over $600), want to get the TT gears (have to check application) for the -7, want to get a set of ARB's for my Bronco (D60 front/10.25 rear |removethispart|@~$600 each and still no gears), want to get a 120v mig welder to fab up bumpers, nerfs, etc for the -7, have to add ~1.5" body lift for the -7 to work with the new tires as they rub (have pics - be up soon), need to get the front raised on the -7 to match the 2" jeep spacer in the rear, that's just the vehicles as of right now, then there is fixing of the hot tub, refinishing the deck, getting wood floors installed in the house, etc. etc. etc. Talk about having no money....... and all plans.......

AAAaahhhhh, if I was only a little smartter.

Monetary donations will be accepted.

A body repair from a good front crash (Likely by the noted bent frame) may correct all but the inner fender.  The bent inner fender would display this difference in strut tower gap.  I just went thru this on my 1998 2 dr.

If the truck doesn't show signs of abuse I wouldn't be scared, and even a bent strut tower is correctable.

Since I only posted a proxy bid, I lost by $50. My bid was $1350. Went to get my deposit and found this out. It was also already gone by 10am. Oh well.

I'll be purchasing a MIG soon enough then. Found Northern having a sale on the Hobart 140. Cool, need to see if I can get a matching price locally.
