Additional T-case mounts for 4:1 t-case?
« on: May 05, 2009, 09:48:18 PM »
For those of you running big tires and 4.24:1 t-case gears, did you do anything to strengthen the t-case mounting system? I noticed that on my 97 Sidekick with a 98 ft-lb 1.6L engine, it has 2 bolts in the bottom and 2 on the side. Why they would half the number of bolts holding the case on a vehicle with 30% more torque is beyond me. I got Trail Tough 4.24's installed in my Vitara 2.0L t-case and I would like to add a side mount similar to the one found on the Sidekick. The case has the holes drilled and threaded in it already so I think it's just a matter of finding a mount and drilling some holes in the crossmember. I was just wondering if anyone else had done this or if they had a better, stronger, or cheaper solution. Pics are welcome.

My mounts bent and I had to reinforce them, and add a skid to it.  I'll snap pics if you want.

Sure, pics sound good. Did you have the side mount from a 1st gen on there as well or just the factory bottom mount?

I believe just the bottom.  I'm off tomorrow so I'll crawl under and take a click.

Hmm, interesting. I picked up a side mount from a Sidekick at the wrecker last weekend. I crawled under and held it up there just to eyeball it and see how things line up. It's not a direct bolt-in but I think it will still work if I make my own plate. I will post pics when I get this done...I'd still be interested in seeing what you've done to yours as well though.
