cheap and easy lift?
« on: May 23, 2009, 09:28:08 AM »
Looking to get around 1.5 to 2 inches of lift for my 87 sammy.  I aint looking to build a rock crawler, as this truck will mainly be used for hunting.  I just want a little extra ground clearance.  What would you recommend as an easy way to get 1.5-2"?

You could run longer shackles front and rear that would give you about an inch and half.  You would also need to buy longer shocks.  That is about the cheapest and easiest way.

Now Bryan, he would have to run 2"- 4" shackles to get 1"- 2" of lift. That is pretty long death fangs. What do you mean by cheap? Less than $500.00?

I think a spring over is your best bet but it will be a bit more than 2", spring over on 31's is a sweet and practical combo  8)

That is true I remember Davey's giant long rock anchor shackles.

I mean as cheap as possible.

Yes, I have seen a sprung over sammy and that is more lift than I want.

Spring over is pretty costly and gives you like 5" lift. And if your not able to weld your own stuff on it costs even more. I just completed a CJ/ RUF (front Jeep CJ-7 springs in rear, stock zuki Rear Up Front ) I just did this with some longer shackles and got about 2.5"-3" of lift. Relatively cheap. I think I did it for about $200. And it gives you longer leaf springs all around which = better flex. Here is a link for some info.

The last couple pics are of my rig.
And simply as an observation zukiworld seems to lean more to SPOA (spring over axle) and zuwharrie leans a alot towards putting jeep YJ springs on, or CJ/ RUF. I needed a cheap budget lift as well. And I spent hours online reading both forums, and I felt that the CJ/ Ruf would be the cheapest, and give me the most performance. You can also look at simply doing a virtual lift (cut fenders) and run bigger tires to get some lift and will still amaze you with its off road potential.

I put a 2" body lift on my sammy about 4 months ago and it works great under $150

But I'm looking for a gain in ground clearance

I would either do the shackle reverse or lift springs. You can get away with stock shocks on both but longer shocks are recomended. Springs vary from a couple hundred to 500 or so. The nice thing about springs is depending on witch brand you choose, the ride can improve greatly. They also bolt on in just a few hours with simple tools.
I have never run the shackle reverse but know people who have. They have all seemed to like it a lot. I think it is a bit cheaper than springs.

Just for some ideas here is a OME 2" spring lift with 30" tires
