EFI TB questions
« on: August 10, 2004, 04:49:38 PM »
Does anyone know if new sensors like the TPS or a new injector with higher flow rate is available? Also I was wondering if the throttle body can be bored out or how well a TB spacer would work?

1. why change the TPS unless its faulty
2. Not according to Wildgoody and I believe him ;) You could increase the fuel pressure though to increase fuelling.
3. Yes but probably not worth it. At a rough guestimate I would say that the total intake area at the top of the throttle body less the area taken up by the injector housing is around the same area as the bore at the butterfly.
4. I wish I knew, I have some 1" ally plate. Try it and let us know.
5. As I see it you could remove the stock injector from the top of the TB and bore out the housing and fit a larger butterfly. Then you fit the spacer with another (higher volume) injector mounted in it. You then need a new ECU.

I wonder if the stock intake pipe restricts the flow into the TB, it is quite a tight bend. If you're body lifted you could fabricate something with more of a bend on it. A guy I know with a Vit carb engined SJ swears that removing the airbox makes little difference but taking the elbow off the top of the TB makes a big difference

You might be able to find another injector from a different vehicle that physically is the same size as your stock Suzuki injector.  You first would need to pull the stock one out and check who the manufacturer is.  It's probably Denso.

I did the same with my turbo Swift GT. It now has 450cc injectors compared to the stock's 250cc injectors.

Remember that adding a larger injector will actually make your car run like crap unless you have a way to "electronically" control it (ie, piggyback computer or similar).

Just my two cents.

I never could find a makers ID
on the injector, but the throttle
body is made by Mikuni, and the
electrics (ECU etc) are Mitsubishi

I took the injector into an injection
specialist here in So Cal in Torrance,
they told me that they didn't have a
injector cup that could seat the stock
injector, there fore they had no way
to test it or modify it's flow.

The best you could do is to bump the
fuel pressure, but this will have no effect,
except on your fuel milage ( read worse)

You need to add a cam and exhaust to
get HP gains (or a Turbo  ;)  )  This is the
way to power, not over fueling.

Good Luck on your quest for the elusive
Horse Power monster, I fould mine, you
can find yours too

Those are in addition to the TBI, and they
are connected to the MegaSquirt EFI computer,
they handle the boost to 9 PSI, and have been
changed from 17PPH to 35PPH injectors from
a Turbo ThunderBird   ;D

I've got the Hawk billet torquer cam and Calmini header so other than a turbo are there any more ways to ring more HP out of one of these motors. I've thought about playing with high CR ratios but I haven't got any replies on that thread.

Have you tried it on a dyno or done a plug chop to find out if you have a fuelling problem? With the mods you have you may well be able to pick up a few more bhp with a custom ECU. The new Megasquirt looks like a big improvement over the old one and the old one wasn't bad.
