cluster problems 90's kick
« on: August 16, 2009, 05:07:31 PM »
ok... truck is a 1990 sidekick. originally had a non tach cluster, swapped over to a tach cluster (swapped the speedo and odometer over) worked fine but tach started to stick at higher rpm (truck would be shut off and it would still show 4000 rpm)

got another cluster from a newer truck and plugged it all in, worked fine. went to swap over the speedo like i did last time and found that the bolt pattern for the guage was different and wouldnt swap properly. so through the speedo back into old cluster and back in the truck and found the temp guage would peg itself up and extremely hot as soon as truck is turned onto acc. dont know whats wrong. temp guage was unbolted from back of cluster to allow speedo to be removed. dont know if its just a connection problem or what. wondering if anyone has ever had this problem before.

going to be looking for another cluster as fast as i can... i dont like not having a working temp guage...

I don't think you need to run out and get a new cluster, It sounds like you may have just
inadvertently grounded the indicator for the temp guage. Re check all your connections before you buy another.

ill pull it tonight and check it out. im wanting to get another cluster that has a properly working tach in it (mines slow to react and doesnt show proper rpm, unless i idle at 3000rpm...)

but atleast if i can get the temp guage working again its not needed right now, i can live a bit longer with a busted tach, but the temp guage isnt something i like driving without.
