Can't fill up
« on: August 19, 2009, 11:20:25 AM »
Hi all,

I'm having a problem with my 95 sidekick.  Whenever I try to fill up, the gas pump shuts off like every .2 gallons, which is very frustrating.  I've heard there might be a problem with my filler hose.  Does that sound right? Anyone know how to get to it if so?  Thanks!

I know this is gonna sound stupid, but play with the position of the filler nozzle when your filling,(no experience with your vehicle) sometimes the nozzle has to be jiggles to go all the way in, sometimes its better if it sits back a little bit, try it out, see if it helps. you should never fill it up on the last setting on the nozzle(the clicking, holding mechanism on the nozzle handle) I have always heard you get more if you use the first or second click, and always fill up as early in the morning as you can, right as the sun is coming up is best.

Now enter someone who HAS experience with this model to let you know if there IS an issue.

I have to fill mine slowly if I want to get a complete fill. You may want to check your vents on the tank. I believe the vent connects to a plastic tank that collects the vapors. It's close to the inside of the rear pass side fender well.  It transfers the captured vapors to the charcol canister located on the pass side front inner fender well, in the engine compartment. This may have absolutly nothing to do with it either! :P To check your filler neck, all you need to do is remove the plastic inner fender liner from the pass side of the rear fender. You will be able to clearly see the rubber filler neck once that's removed. Look for kinks, twists, anything unusual.

Mine is the same, I hold the nozzle sideways like a gangster shoots a gun ;)
Seems to work for me!

My LJ and 413K have the same problem.....fill it slowly and try different position for the nozle. With the LJ the vent is not big enough and it bubbles back up and will blow back out if not carefull. The 413K has a bent filler tube that will make the fuel do the same thing as the LJ.

Check the vent and fill tube any kinks will cause a problem. IF you can't fix it then just fill slowly.

I found a floating ball in a cage, right at the tank on the fill hose, probably to block the fuel flow and make the pump handle shut off. You might try checking that and see if it's stuck or something
