Gear ratios
« on: August 03, 2004, 04:54:22 AM »
I was wondering what the gear ratio for a '91 tracker is, the 4x4 tranny and the 2wd tranny? Are they different?  My buddy is looking for a 1.6 swap to his sammy and he's wondering which is best. the 2wd tranny will mate onto his t-case but if the 4x4 tranny ratio is better he might take the gears and swap it in.

Thanks
Wil

Umm, why not just bolt the 1.6 to the Sammi 5speed and gear up his 3rd members? Or does he want an auto Sammi?

The 2wd vs 4wd trans gearing is the same as the comparable unit. If you are talking about the sammy vs kick gearing, the late model sammy and kick are the same, except for 3rd gear. A major benefit for the kick trans in a sammy is the 15 pound heavier flywheel and the 1/2" larger clutch. I noticed a big difference in my sammy when I went a kick trans, loved it.
