dont know much about samurais....want parts and need help.....
« on: January 28, 2010, 10:02:09 PM »
im looking at ordering a weber carb. i have a 87 stock engine sammy. will this work and is it ok to do the manual choke or electric choke or what? heres what i wanted.... seemed to be the biggest best performance. its a weber k601 38 manual choke. is this ok? will it give me probs? or is the weber 32/36 better, with electric choke. i dunno if this will work or not. im new to sammys. im ordering stuff tomorrow so i need help. im also adding the pacesetter short header and the gm cs130 alt. upgrade with braket and harness. ill be getting the cam soon. i mainly need help on what carb to get thats gonna work great. and i dont know what type choke is ok. thanks yall.

Go with the 32/36 weber carb. the 38 will just dump too much gas and without some major engine upgrades it will not perform as good as it could.  I have the 34/34 in mine but I have a 1.6L 8v with a header and bigger exhaust it runs great.  I am also going to rebuild the head in the future and put in a bigger cam that should really wake things up.  I did have this on my stock motor before swapping in the 1.6 and it ran ok but, it was hard to tune the carb and make the engine run smooth.

I hope this helps

The nice thing about an automatic choke is it's automatic so you don't have to fool with it.  The nice thing about a manual choke is it's manual, so you don't have to worry about the system trying to fool with it.  I'm a fan of manual chokes on my toys, but it's really just a matter of convenience.

cool. well i guess ill go with the manual choke 32/36 weber carb kit. also ill add the shortie style header and hopefully ill get sum more power. then in the near future ill do the cam and the gearing kit in the transfer case so i can run the 33/10.50/15 tires. well thanks everyone that helped me. appreciate it.

so i just ordered the carb with manual choke and ordered the pacesetter header and alternator upgrade. so by the way...when i get the carb... will i need to set everything up as far as carb settings? or is it preset as far as fuel mixture?

There have been a couple of weber setup threads.  I'll let one of the experts chime in on that one.

The carb will be close but will need adjusted.  It comes with instructions for setting up.

Hope you have better luck with that pacesetter header then I did, I had one on my Zuk dang thing busted at the top near the manifold bolts the metal on it right there was super thin, now I run a Doug Thorley header it has done much better.

so far so good on the header... but we will see with a little more beating..lol. if it fails then ill do the doug thorley. i got this one new really cheap so i jumped on it just to see how its gonna do. the carb tho...wow!!!! made a massive difference. night and day for sure. im really impressed by the weber. the setting was pretty much on the money. think its just lil bit rich tho. we will see how it does this weekend. all im worried about is it cutting out on steep inclines so i read about. heard that i needed to swap the floats out to plastic ones to help.?

That is cool you got a good deal on your header I don't know to much about the weber carbs one thing I have heard is if you can lift the front up with a forklift and tune it a little I have no idea if it works but if you can do it may help good luck  ;)
