Question concerning gas tank..
« on: March 11, 2010, 07:21:24 AM »
All,

I have had my Zuki for about two years.  It is an 87 Samurai.  The gas tank appears to be the stock gas tank.  My question is how many gallons of gas should it hold?

I can only get between 6-7 gallons in my tank when the gas guage shows completely empty.  I have never tried to run the gas completely out to see if the guage is correct, but consistently I get about 180 miles per tank and the guage is very consistent from full to empty from the fill-up through the driving of the 180 miles.

I thought the tank would hold between 12-15 gallons, but not sure.  Does anyone know where I might be able to get a tank that holds more than the 6-7 gallons my tank will take?

Thanks, Troy

stock 1987 tank held 10 gallons.
I recently upgraded to the Petroworks 15 gallon tank (Black one).
http://petroworks.com/drivetrain-accessories.php

my tanks (both) would show down towards the empty before they were totally empty.
I watch my tripometer and reset it when I fill up. Between the gauge and the tripometer I have a good idea where my gas level is.
A buddy has the clear Petroworks gas tank and a person can see the fuel level through the tank.

bring a jug and drive till she dies....the guage on mine will read empty a long time before she quits. I always have a jug with me so it saves the walk. I don't drive mine much so alot of times I'll jump in with a low tank.

IF I recall when I had stock ride I'd get around 200km's on a tank. but now my speedo is all  messed up due to the geaars...I use the GPS for speed.

You can drop the tank, pull the sender and adjust.
There is a ohm range in the FSM for full/empty, when you have it out, put a meter on it and you may be able to get it more accurate...

Or watch your trip odo

Or carry a 1 gal jug

Thanks All,

I think my guage is just not that accurate.  I will carry the gallon jug and run it out and the I'll know how close I am by the Odometer.
