samurai power steering question
« on: July 30, 2010, 04:10:18 PM »
I have an 87 samurai that I put a nissan sd22 diesel engine and 5 speed in.  with the rad that I am using I have less than half an inch between my rad bracket and the stock steering box.  If I want to put a tracker power steering box on, how much room do I need or is it about the same width as a sammi box?  I have all the p/s pump and hoses from the nissan that bolt right onto the motor, and plan to build custom hoses to fit the tracker box.  Does the tracker pitman arm fit the samurai tie rod end. I don't need a drop pitman as I have a breeze over the top set up.  Thanks for the help.

The trackick box will set closer to the radiator bracket than the samurai box.  On all the trackick PS swaps I have done, I have been able to get by without moving or modifying the radiator bracket (stock samurai radiator, with stock samurai radiator brackets).  I do drill 2 new holes in the frame to bolt the trackick PS on with (the samurai and trackick PS boxes do not have the same bolt pattern) and mount the box right on the frame, without using any type of adapter or wedge, like some of the vendors sell.  If you use an adapter or wedge on the frame, you will have to modify the radiator bracket.
The samurai draglink fits the trackick pitman arm just fine.
Tracker and Sidekick parts for sale.....PM me with your wants/needs.

thanks, that's exactly the information I needed.  I believe I will do the same and mount the new box directly to the frame without any brackets and then go with the rag joint eliminator.  wish me luck.
