thread type on brake lines? 86 samurai
« on: June 19, 2010, 02:08:53 PM »
Putting the axle back on my 86 samurai and running into trouble screwing in the brake lines to the drums. I already see some threads flattening out, so I want to maybe use a tap and clean out the threads before I go any further. Anyone know what threads those would be? thanks!

Brake lines are flair fittings, you don't want to run a tap
down there or you risk damaging the flair that makes the
line seal, just make sure the nut isn't starting to cross thread

I see. well shoot, I'm not sure what to do then. It is starting to cross thread and I don't want to force it any further than I already have. suggestions?

At that point I guess you could try to use a bottoming tap,
but I don't know what the thread is, or if it is just a standard
pipe thread of sorts, or go get a new brake cylinder or caliper
depending which end it's on, they aren't expensive and worth
the price in safety of the vehicle
