GV 4 door lift ?'s
« on: June 23, 2004, 08:30:45 AM »
Hope you guys can help me,  I am thinking of lifting my '01 Tracker 4-door.  I am thinking of using the Calmini 2 1/2" lift in conjuction with the RRO 1 1/8" spring spacers and the longer OME struts up front.  I am also thinking of using the RRO 2" body lift.

I was wondering if any of you would know if I will run into CV angle and length problems with this combination.  I was also wondering if the longer OME struts will let me eliminate the strut spacers supplied with the Calmini lift.  And last, I was wondering if the shorter body lift realy does eliminate all of the shifter, steering shaft and brake line nightmares associated with the 3" body lift.

And one more thing, I recently got an e-mail from RRO regarding the 6" suspension only lift they are working on.  They say that they are also working on a similar GV kit, but it won't be out until late this year or maybe even next year.  Should I just wait for that?  I plan on using my rig on moderate to serious trails and I know that this kit will give me additional ground clearance under the frame without the headaches of a body lift.

Any info and oppinions helpful

Thankyou in advance.
Can he say that here
Later,

WAIT...   on RRO   :o :o :o    ::) :-X    I wouldn't!!!

I'd go ahead and preform what you mentioned above and look to resolve CV and steering issues as they arise.  I have heard that the A-arms were shorter on the GV"s then the earlier kicks...  I do not know for sure.   It should ride and drive but to wheel hard on a regular basis the CV"s and steering will need to be resolved.   I don't think that a current style kit would resolve these issues for serious use at that lift height.

 Wait a minute, the Calmini 2.5" for the 99 up uses longer struts, not strut spacers. Putting the OME struts on front would be a bad thing, not a benefit. If you want to wait for Calmini for a while, they are in the process of trying to figure out a budget oriented body lift for the GV. The problem is, the 99 up trucks ahve a rather complicated setup for addressing the body lift theory. A lot of things need to be relocated including the steering shaft for the steering rack. It is a BIG issue to do the body lift for these, that is why nobody has one in production yet. I found out all this when I was just getting started on building Heather's kick.

The GV calmini 2.5" kit does have strut spacers, at least they did in mine, though the picture on Calmini's website doesn't show them.  The strut that came with my kit is the same length as stock, but is valved firmer.  I have 3/4" spacers in the front, so the suspension droop isn't great.  I'll be going to OME struts soon, they're about an inch longer.

 Hmm, sorry about that. I was going on what the site showed and what I've seen in the past with the 2" and 3" kick lifts. I didn't think that they would change it at all.

I've learned that pictures on many manu's web sites should not be taken to be the actual item......just a reference.
