1989-1998 Suzuki Sidekick & Geo/Chevy Trackers can use the Anvil.. 1999 and newer Trackers are different.

i guess im looking for options. i have a 99 tracker withe the aluminum third member and that just wont do for offroading.  i like the calmini unit because i would only need the one spare axle and it looks tough.  i have heard of the steel units but would much perfer calmini unit would it be that much fab to make it fit/work. 
or does anyone else have any ideas on a stout front end for offroading or would money and time spent be better aplied to a solid axle swap?

the 3rd member that breaks, not the housing in most cases

The Housing itself doesnt break. Its the where it ounts up. Believe their called the dog ear. Your right, their not good for wheelin. Ive broke 2. Lookin for the same thing you are. Ive been told that i believe its the grand vitara that has a steel housing that will fit but not positive.

It's not that simple Wild,  There are 2.5L GV with manual transmissions that have the Steel third and center section... XL-7 w/manual and 03+ models both auto and manual. Take a magnet with you when you go shopping to verify... By the way, there is a steel center section for sale right now in the classifieds section.

FWIW, the Calmini Anvil requires that the 3" suspension lift be installed...I assume this is because the Anvil is built with the same "drop" as the drop brackets in their 3" kit...so for those who aren't running the 3" Calmini lift, or any lift for that matter, and the diff drop brackets don't matter to you...then the cast iron housing may be a better option.  
The trick thing about the Anvil is that it comes with the pass. side axle conversion ready-to-go.  
Anvil: $669.95.  Plus you have to find a third member (preferably cast iron).  Add that cost to $669.95.
Cast iron housing AND third from Hawk Strictly Suzuki: $649.  But, it will run stock axles---no custom pass. side axle conversion.
So basically, if you don't care for the pass. side axle mod, then it'd be more cost-effective to get the whole shebang from Hawk.

so what can be done to beef up the 3rd member. 

There is a collar that helps to support it, but the problem is backing up, not going forward,
unless you let the mounts get loose, then who knows what might happen

So as long as I keep the mounts tight I should be ok?  From the research I have been doing it seems like the front is the week link on these vehicals.
So if I get the calmini lift for my 1999 chevy tracker can I modify the geo tracker calmini avial to fit my tracker? I realy like the idea of running the same cv shaft on botth sides "easy trail maintnace" 
all in all at the end of the day I am looking for a tried and true reliable front drive set up for medium duty trail ridding nothing to crazy but I want know if I need to get work done its going to hold up.

Sometimes, sometimes the whole axle just shatters, thats what happened to mine and a lot of others that I've seen.
