Leaning Sammy
« on: October 13, 2010, 06:57:20 PM »
I have a 88 Sammy that has a 3" Calmini lift, it leans on the passenger side back. It is 1" lower than all the other corners.
I have checked all bushings, ran fuel low so I could see if fuel weight caused it. Tire pressure is correct.

The kit is 18 months old and has been sitting in a warehouse and not driven, called Calmini and they will sell a single spring but my concern is that the new spring will cause the other springs to be lower in height.

It is still spring under.

Thoughts?

Are any of the leafs in the spring pack cracked? look way close if you have the ability, get it x-rayed (don't worry if that is not possible I'm sure hardly any of us could do that LOL)  are the leaf eyes turned or twisted? if you replace that one single leaf it may lift that side up a small bit but I don't think it would be that bad.

You might try swapping that one onto the other side, see if the low side changes places along with the spring.

Sagging springs is a common problem on Sami's I used to buy springs from a famous place in San Diego who would warranty them for life and when you brought a spring back to them they would just beat it back into shape with a bit more arch in them and hand them back. Problem is that springs need to be tempered to hold their arch if the temper isnt right the springs sag. So re-bent springs would always sag again  >:( One fix was to have custom springs built with the lift you want in them, you can also check around with members on this site and see if anyone has some springs laying around, lots of people are using the heep springs or have gone to the super flex kits like what Trail Tough sells. http://www.trailtough.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=7&Itemid=53  and  http://www.trailtough.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=181&category_id=44&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=53

Thanks Ed, I think I may go the YJ spring route after my latest research.

Update, received a new spring yesterday and installed today, leveled out and sits equal on all four corners.

It rides better as well, took spring apart and no cracks or breaks, maybe just a weak spring. Oh well, fixed now.

Thanks for all the help, it was appreciated.
