fitting an aftermarket rev counter

I've never fitted a rev counter before, and don't want the bother of swapping my '94 Vitara's instrument pod.
What's involved in wiring up a rev counter??
(1.6 8V motor)

Seems to me like the last one I installed had 4 wires:



  • signal from ignition



  • switched 12v power source



  • ground



  • light





Here's some instructions from Autometer that might help.

if you use a test light, their will be one wire with a pluse in it coming off the coil,  that is the one.

thank you all - I can manage that - I had been told a link to the alt was required but couldn't see why!

off to spend some money - I want to be able to relate the rpms to the vechile's off road pulling power to see where I get max torque, given the effect of the bigger tyres.
