More Power Needed
« on: March 02, 2011, 05:52:51 PM »
I just got a 87 Samurai LWB (entirely stock).  Took it to work today and couldn't go more than 80km/h on the highway.  There was a wind so that didn't help, but I also noticed a block welded on the back of the gas petal to prevent me from pushing it down too far.  Is that a stock item or did someone before me weld that on to prevent having any fun?   I would like to get more power out of it.   After looking on the web site here and other Zuki sites I should be able to get more speed than that.   I also found out that the rear seat belts are missing.  Any photos of where I should bolt new ones would be greatly apprieciated.  I am thinking of maybe fabricating some shoulder belts for the back so if anyone has done that on a long wheel base sami I would also really like to see some pictures.

For the rear seat belts you want to slide under the vehicle, there will be nuts there where the seat belts will bolt through.  Just use a tap to mark the spot and drill it out from the top side.

Thanks, I think I have found the spot now.  Just got to wait for the seat belts to arrive.

I will be keeping a look out for a 1.6l engine.   As far as new gears in the transfer case.  How much does that cost, and where is the cheapest place to get them from?

Low Range Off Road is a great place to browse for items as they have a well put together site.  You might check with Trail Tough, as they have sales on gears all of the time.

Not sure about the shipping cost to Canada though.
