-7 spacer install (front) & reflection
« on: May 21, 2004, 01:58:39 PM »
Well, I'm tired and sore. I attempted, that's right, attempted to install the 1.5" spacers up front of the -7. Tore into the driver's side first reflecting that I can disconnect the axle rather easily and this would be the learning side.
Took off the strut support bar and found it under tension. Removed the strut bracket to compare it to a Trackick. Big difference. See pics in album. There is a 1.5" height difference for 1.
Started to remove the coil and was able to get it out after disconnecting the steering and shaft and loosening the ABS line and brake line. I was unsuccessful in removing the hub nut (Anyone know where I can get a spindle nut socket?) to further help the situation.
After getting the coil out, I placed in the spacer, then I tried and tried and tried to get the coil back in. Tried a coil compressor which only bowed the coil the wrong way. I tried everything. Pics should show that the A-arm is held up by the bushings. It would not fall to the ground at all. I was able to get the coil in once, but it wasn't lined up in the bucket and I couldn't get it to rotate and stay in the bucket of the arm.

I'll have to give credit to those that were able to install the spacer on the Vitara model.

Will attempt another time in the near future with swapping in the Trackick strut bracket on flat plate.
