Transmission Rebuild kits
« on: May 14, 2004, 11:21:56 AM »
I recently checked on a rebuild kit for teh transmission out of my 87 sami. I am planning on doing a toyota swap, and since my trans is not sounding too good, thought it might be easier to rebuild it and sell it, than selling a "noisy" trans.

So, I sent an e-mail to  transmission exchange in Portland Oregon, and here was their response:

--quote--
a 1987 Suzuki Samurai Transmission Master Overhaul Kit (gaskets,
bearings, seals ) is $59.01.
Or a Super Kit (Master Overhaul kit with synchro rings) is $90.06

We accept all major credit cards.   Please call 800-XXX-XXXX
(XXX-XXX-XXXX) or fax XXX-XXX-XXXXto order.

Thanks for the inquiry,

Greg

Has anyone dealt with them before? $59.01isn't a bad price, is there anything else I would need? Or should I even worry about rebuilding and selling?

Any help or opinions would be welcome!

I edited out the number, because this isn't an ad for them, but left the website in case anyone else is interested.

Just reread it, and realized I didn't say what the problem is. The problem it is having is when in neutral, and you let the clutch out, it tries ever so slightly to roll forward. You can also hear, anytime the clutch it out (in gear or not) a "bad bearing rumble" sound coming from the trans.

I am not going to reuse the trans, but need to get as much $ as possible for it. How much do they go for? Anybody know offhand? I haven't looked as its not a high priority right now.

Thanks again

Not positive but it might just be the throw-out bearing. When the clutch is in the flywheel is not spinning the clutch disk which is splined to the transmission input shaft which rests in the throw-out bearing.
