I got Two, now

I just picked up a 87 hardtop for $225.  It may look like a lowrider next to my SJ but it's missing the dents and rust, also.  The bad:  it doesn't go into gear at all.

I took the shifter, shift tower and plate on top of the transmission and didn't see anything wrong.  I was wonder what the possible problems could be or where I should start.  The clutch doesn't feel good either.  It may be something in the clutch.  Some ideas to start before I drop the tranny.

Will it go into gear with the motor off? if so...

When you crank on the starter in gear does it move? Try it in each gear, just be sure to be somewere that you wont run over any thing before you can turn the motor back off.
If it moves try driving it without the clutch (ONLY IF YOU KNOW HOW)!!!!!!

If it wont go into gear even with the motor turned off it's in the tranny or the shifter.

I am leaning towards it being the tranny as well.  Has anyone ever put a sidekick tranny upto a sammy engine?
