GM ALT WIRING
« on: May 26, 2005, 04:30:25 AM »
I just put in a new GM 94 amp alternater and new big battery  - it has the one post and the little plug with two wires coming from it. From what I have read all through these boards and a write up from one of the venders is that the -- one post is hooked up to the same wire that the other alt post was hooked up to. The red wire off of the little plug is ran back to that post on the alt. and the white one on the plug goes to the white and black I think it was that was off of the original plug that is there.
I also read that with the 94 amp I should redue the wire from the post with a heavier one and hook it directly to the poss of the battery. I did that with a 30amp fuse - I was asuming that I would not need the other wire that was hooked there and left it off. it had no power at all to anything ????  I left the heavyer wire and hooked the other one back up and now I have power but it keeps blowing the 30amp fuse on the new heavyer wirte and is not charging accourding to there equipment at the battery place !!!!!!!!

I hate this wiring crap --------------- What did I do wrong ?????????

Any help would be great ..........      Thanks

How I have done mine in the past is hook a new 10 ga. wire from the post and nut terminal without a fuse to the battery leaving the other one that belongs there on  it also, the other two I would tie together and run it to the ignition or a wire that comes on with the key in run position, one wire is an exciter the other one is a voltage reference wire, so having it hook clear back up inside the dash is a good thing for more voltage as you turn on your lights and such your voltage will raise.

I think that 94 amps will blow a 30amp fuse ...
