Noob from Louisiana. Just picked up a '88 Samurai
« on: February 18, 2012, 07:18:03 PM »
Hello fm LA. this is not my 1st Sami, in fact i had a 70's model 3 cylinder tin top 4x4 while stationed over in Japan in the mid 80s. Then when I got back to the world I picked up a 84 model Sami 4x4, I had it a couple of yrs & then sold it.

I just picked up a '88 Sami w/a 6" lift & like new 33x12.5 BFG MTs on black steel wheels, a weber carb conversion, it runs like a top and pulls like a freight train in Low range.  Its got S3 racing seats, and front and rear brush gaurds.  Not sure whats been done to engine, Tcase or gearing but i was impressed w/how it pulled in the mud.  The body is pretty rough though, and the top is home made but it works.

All this for $1700, I thought it was a good deal so I bought it.  It was at a  little car lot and the guy who had it said he bought it fm a guy who needed some cash but didn't know anything about it.  What do yall think, good buy or not?

Future mods id like to do.
1.  Full roll cage
2.  Rear seat
3.  Soft top
4.  Fender flares
5.  Possible 1.6 or 2.0 engine conversion (but as long as this engine is running I'll keep it)

My ??? is where can I get body panels, I mean I could really use some front/rear side panels and a hood.

There was a company selling used Samurai parts that had a lot of yard stock, who has gone out of business,  whose inventory was recently sold to another well known 4x4 parts/supply company. One got the name and number, the other got the goods- I believe. pm'd you.
