Too late for an introduction?
« on: April 17, 2004, 11:08:23 AM »
Guess I was kind of rude by just starting to post stuff without introducing myself :-[

Hopefully it's not too late even though I'm a "senior member" now ;D

Anyway,  I've been using this Tracker as a commuter for about a year now.  I bought it for my son to use in HS about 4 years ago.  He really  liked the four wheelin' aspect and has gotten himself a J--P.

The Tracker is basically stock; well, heck I guess it is just about all stock.  I put a small K&N filter on the end of a tube; a home-made setup.  I have a throttle body spacer I made that's waiting to go on.  I just bought an electric fan for it; again waiting to go on.  I've gotten to be a pretty slow worker in my "old age", but I hope to get those projects done "soon".

I don't really have a lot planned for the Tracker.  I like getting 23 MPG and I guess the things I'm doing are in an effort to make it a better commuter and maybe squeeze out another MPG or three.  I would  like to get some bigger tires, but probably won't go beyond 30x9.5 and probably wouldn't do anything more than a 2" body lift.  I've seen some of the Track/Kicks here with the bumper skin off an like that look, but I wonder if that'll cost me MPGs.

Anyway, just wanted to do the formal introduction.  It's great having a forum for a car that I do the majority of the work on.  I don't do a lot with the spouse's Grand Am, and the daughter's Toyota is simple enough to work on, but I try to do everything I can to the Tracker, so I'm sure I'll have questions that I can't get the answers from my Haynes or Service Manual.

Put 32's on it with a 6" lift then go wheeling with your son!

He will then regret giving the truck up for a Heep when you blow the doors off him!  ;D

Hey Jerry,

I've chatted with you on the offroad.com forum.  Welcome to this forum.  It has a lot more activity than the other.  My Tracker is the twin of yours, but it has a softtop.

Those Auto's must suck the life out of the little 1.6 - all my Sidekicks (4-doors) have been sticks, and I've always gotten at least 28 MPG out of them.

I remember.  Did you ever get your idle problem resolved?

Yeah, auto's are tough on mileage.  I guess that's what happens when you lose 20% or so of your HP to heat at the torque converter ::)  I would have preferred a stick but got the auto for the boy.  His J--p is stick and he picked it up quickly, oh well, the auto is nice in traffic jams.

I'D SAY I LOST ABOUT 20 - 30 MILES PER TANK OF GAS WITH THE 31'S. BUT ITS JUST A GUESS , CAUSE I REALLY DONT KEEP TRACK OF IT THAT MUCH.
