door hinge screws.
« on: June 18, 2012, 11:02:24 PM »
So i wanted to take the doors off my new samurai. the screws that hold the hinge to the body were super tight i got them off the drivers side door and am good to go on that side but the passenger side door i cant get any of them to even budge. i tried a screw driver, a rachet with a phillips head, wd40, i cant get them to budge at all. the threads just strip any suggestions.

I use a  long throw air hammer at 60 psi and hold a philips bit with a small cresent wrench and give it a couple of hits with the air hammer they come right off, was going to buy one of the tools that they sell that hold the bits to the air hammer but for 35.00 I just hold the bit with the wrench.

another thing you could do if you'd like to replace them with hex bolts is grind off the sides of the head so you can use vise grips on them that's what I had to do years ago.
86 Samurai, SPOA, 3" HD leaf springs, 31/10.5/15 Big-O XT Tires, K&N Air Filter, Doug Thorey Header, more coming when I find the funds :)

I think that at the factory, they "Loctite-ed" them in !! I have had to use the "Hot Wrench" to heat a bunch of them up to come loose.
A good propane torch works, just enough heat to get the "Glue" to let go. This is what I did to get the roll bars from the
Targa Bar to the Windshield out to replace the bar padding.

GOOD LUCK!

I used a impact driver and beat them out. A couple didn't want to budge so I drilled the centers out of them and came after them again with the impact driver. This way doesn't marr or distort the paint on the hinge if that is an issue.
I know the voices aren't real.... but they have some pretty kewl ideas!!! Tux.....  ;-)
