'Zuki noob in need of guidance
« on: July 19, 2012, 06:59:47 PM »
I have a friend selling his '88 Samurai that I'm interested in buying.  I've been trying to search the forums with little luck so maybe someone on here can help me because I am not an expert on Samurais...total noob.  ???

Does the '88 have power steering?  I test drove it today and figured it either didn't have power steering or the pump was bad.  Also, is there any major "fatal flaws" with these 4x4s that I need to check on immediately?  This one is rough around the edges, but pretty much amazing for the year, for living in the rust belt, and for actually running...$500.00.

I know I'm just a "Jeep" guy, but I've always admired these little 4x4s.  Very cool. Any practical advice would be awesome thought I know that's pretty vague.

They don't come with power steering stock, it's worth more than 5 bills in parts, I would just check the frame for rust if it looks good go for it.

Yeah I'll probably scoop it up and see what happens.  Can't beat the price and maybe I'll even get addicted.  I love my Jeeps, but everyone has those.  This would be something ultra-rare around here.  I'll keep ya posted.

You wont be a jeep guy anymore after you get it running well and take it into the hills,   when you figure you just went 120 miles and only used 5 gallons of gas. 8)

Yeah keeping the 4.0L engines fueled is harsh on the wallet.

Purchased it today.  It's rough, but still a good base to start with.  I'll keep you guys posted!
