Explorer Springs in a 4-Door?
« on: September 07, 2012, 06:37:21 AM »
Anybody have experience with the Explorer/Ranger springs in a 4-door, like how much lift will they yield?  I have Jeffs spacers but Im lookin for a little more lift.  I know a diff drop is needed if I go much higher and my coils may bow a little more but I really want 3-4 inches total lift.

i'm not sure about a 4-door but i have them on my 2-door. Without dropping plates, I cut the spring a bit to squeeze it in there. Gave me about a 1.5-2" lift. Without the cutting and grinding and dropping the diff, probably 2.5" overall. I'm gonna drop mine and install a 4" coil spring lift from a ranger to give me close to 7" in the front.

I have Ford ranger springs on the front of my  '94 JX  Sidekick, I had to cut part of the coil so it would slide up the deal the bump stop is bolted to. It gave mine a solid 2.5+ inches. I'm running a spacer on top of them to match the Jeep LJ (front) springs on the rear of my 'kick which gave me over 5" of lift. They were new take-offs and have since settled a little so it sits higher in the front. I dropped the diff and a-arm mounts 4". The ranger springs are slightly bigger in diameter so they barely rub the left had shaft because I moved the a-arms forward one inch.
1994 Kick, 16v,header.2.5" exhaust, ported MAF,home made mufflers, K&N filter,5" lift with jeep LJ front springs on the rear and Ford ranger springs on front with 2 3/4 spacers,OME struts with 3" strut spacers,31/10.5 Hankook Dynapro MT on 15x7 black D's.

I really dont want to do any A-arm mods I would like to get as much lift up front as I can with stock A-arms and maybe an altered ego or bits 4 vits drop bracket.  Related question, If I got 3-4 inches total lift in the front could I flip the strut bearing AND use Jeffs strut spacers and be in the ballpark for strut travel or will I need new strut spacers?
